Hedge Calculator
The Hedge Calculator works out how much to stake on the opposing outcome so that an open bet returns the same profit whichever way it settles. Enter the original stake and decimal price, then the current decimal price on the other side, and it returns the hedge stake, the total outlay and the guaranteed profit. You can also enter your own hedge amount to see the profit or loss on each outcome.
How the numbers are calculated
The equal-profit hedge stake is the original stake multiplied by the original price, divided by the current price of the opposing outcome. That makes the payout identical on both results. The guaranteed profit is that payout minus both stakes, and it is negative when the price has not moved far enough, which tells you the hedge would only reduce a loss rather than lock in a gain. Prices are decimal only. A three-way market cannot be fully covered with one bet, so the calculator treats the hedge as the direct opposite of the original selection.
When a hedge exists
A profitable hedge only exists once the price you took has shortened, which is the movement SteamWatch records on every match page. Hedging trades expected value for certainty: the second bet carries the bookmaker's margin, so a hedge placed at a fair price costs little, and one placed at a wide price costs more.
